ABOUT US 


A social group promoting the history and amenities of Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire
 
The Stow and District Civic Society promotes the history and amenities of Stow-on-the-Wold in the Cotswolds, a town with a rich heritage reaching back over 4,000 years. 
  
Formed on 3rd August 1971, the Society became a registered charity in 1972 (reg. no.264597) and currently has over 200 members. 
  
The Society is a friendly and social group and runs a lively programme of informative and social events and activities, giving you the opportunity to join in and shape our future. 

Our aims are to:
  •  Stimulate public interest in the promotion of topics including, but not exclusively, the history, geography, natural history, architecture, urban design and planning in the area. 
  • Encourage high standards of planning, architecture and landscaping to improve the amenities in our community. 
  • Raise awareness and interest in the preservation, protection and development of places of local historical interest.
  • Contribute to developing and sustaining a vibrant community in Stow.

Promote

Promoting 'Street Pride' to maintain Stow as an attractive and distinctive Cotswold market town for residents and visitors.

Help

Helping to clean and maintain the Stow wells and helping to support local community activities and events.

Monitor

Monitoring  local planning applications and providing feedback/comments in line with our aims.

Design and implement

A permanent 'Heritage Zone' together with the installation of informative historical town plaques and the undertaking of regular town tours.

Review

Review and update Stow's unique Timeline whilst researching and maintaining our archives.

Support

Supporting local initiatives to reduce single use plastic and improve recycling in our community.
